Wild Boar
1510 South College Ave, Fort Collins, CO
Christmas lights hang from the outside of the house. On the inside, one can find trees, and a variety of decorated ornaments and Christmas antiques. Wild Boar provides a warm and welcoming greeting from the winter chill.
The sound of people talking with friends and family fill the air along with the smell of roasted coffee beans. Its atmosphere as well as many other factors make the Wild Boar stand out from a local Starbucks.
Wild Boar provides customers with an experience of the past. Family owner, Susan Curiel, explains how a photographer built the house in 1924. “My two sons, Brandon and Eric, later turned the house into the restaurant and coffee shop that it is today,” said Curiel.
There are a variety of rooms to sit in including a library filled with old books. There used to be bunk beds in some of the rooms but they have been replaced with comfortable leather chairs for customers to lounge on. There also stands a large patio, a basement and a living room for people to enjoy. To get a sense of the history of Fort Collins, one can notice the variety of black and white pictures illustrating an earlier town.
Besides coffee, the Wild Boar offers a large assortment of food and alcohol. For breakfast, it serves: burritos, biscuits and gravy, French Toast and more. It also has a lunch and dinner menu which includes: spicy chicken wraps, pizza and quesadillas. To get a sense of the price, a chicken quesadilla along with a strawberry banana smoothie costs about $10.
Students at CSU now use it as a place to study. One can find quiet and secluded rooms throughout the place to get prepared for the upcoming finals.
